About Kamangir

Who is behind it
Dr. Arash Kermani Kolankeh
Founder of Kamangir and Khayyammath · computer scientist and university teacher
I have a PhD in computer science from TU Chemnitz in Germany. I have worked at the educational technology lab of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, at Lufthansa and in the German automobile industry. I currently teach mathematics and artificial intelligence courses at the Canadian University Dubai, and I am the founder of Khayyammath.com and of kamangir.school.
For more than ten years I have explained computer science in public, on a free video channel and in interactive lectures that anyone can open without an account, such as a narrated visual lecture on transformers. Kamangir is the same habit applied to the thing I care about most: giving every child a real way into mathematics. Two more examples of my work: an interactive lecture on sorting algorithms, and a recording of one of my live classes.
Mathematics for every child, in their own language.
Kamangir is a free school of mathematics. It is made first for children whose schooling has been interrupted, and it teaches one subject in full: from the first numbers to master's-level ideas.
Our mission
Free for the children who need it most
When school is disrupted, by conflict, displacement or hardship, children lose years that are hard to give back. Kamangir gives them a way to keep learning: lessons that cost nothing, need no account and no personal data, run on a cheap phone, and keep working when the connection drops.
They are taught in the learner's own language, in the order and the notation of their own national curriculum, because a child learning alone should meet mathematics the way their school would have taught it.
One subject, taught in full
To become a mathematician, or simply to understand mathematics deeply, most people spend about eighteen years in education: twelve in school, then several more years of advanced study, most of it across many subjects.
Kamangir is built as a single road through mathematics alone, from the first grade to master's level. Each idea is learned properly before the next one starts, at the learner's own pace, so that the road can be shorter and no one is held back by everything else.
How learning works here
- One idea at a time. A lesson teaches a single idea in a few short sentences, shows it on a small interactive tool, and asks one question about it.
- Answers at once, and a reason. You are told straight away whether you are right, why, and, if not, what the likely slip was. A hint is always there.
- Your own language and school. Arabic, Persian, Dari, Pashto, Ukrainian, Russian and English, with more being added, each following its own curriculum and notation.
- The language of mathematics itself. Speak Maths teaches how to read, say and write notation, from the first signs to the reading of proofs.
- Always available. Download a whole language once and keep it on your device. There is no app to install and nothing to sign up for.

Where we are
Kamangir is an independent, non-commercial project. It has no advertising and no funding, and it counts visits by country, without cookies and without personal data. It is young: much of the material is still a draft that teachers and native speakers have not yet reviewed, and no qualification is awarded. Any keepsake is marked provisional and is not an official document. We would rather say what is finished and what is not than promise more than we can show.
Join us
A project with one author has one point of failure. We are looking for teachers who can check lessons, mathematicians who can catch errors, native speakers of every language we teach, programmers, and schools, charities and education organisations that can put Kamangir in front of children. If that is you, or if you teach children who could use it, write to [email protected].
