Symmetry and folding paper

Count symmetric figures with a line of symmetry, draw the mirror image and predict the shape after folding and cutting paper.

📖 Start here: read the steps of the “Lesson” in order (1, 2, 3 …) and answer each question. Then continue with “Practice”.

Guide

A symmetric figure can be folded along a line so that the two halves match exactly. That line is the line of symmetry.

To count a symmetric figure, count one half and double it, as long as nothing lies on the line.

If you fold paper and cut a piece out of the folded edge, the unfolded paper has the cut and its mirror image side by side.
